Animals as people, people as animals. After visiting the zoo drawing animals, we met in the evening to draw each other as animals. Many funny portraits were created.

In Tills and Catalinas workshop we were asked to cut a building of Stralsund. There were some must have buildings, like the Ozaneum, the townshall or some of the churches. But everyone could choose to cut out any building they liked. We then glued all the papercut buildings onto a row of cardboards to build a typical Stralsund cityscape. Unfortunatly I have no pictures of the papercut right now. Only my sketch.

Skizzenfestival 3rd day

On the third day, we were free to draw only what we wanted to, and leave the rest to our “sketching slaves”. Everyone drew at least 10 pictures with a hint, what could be missing. Then we gathered and exchanged sketchbooks to complete the over 400 sketches. This is, what I collected in my sketchbook:

The workshop of that day made us draw water and clouds! After producing only two or three sketches of water, I decided to go a bit more sketchy and productive on the clouds theme.

And this is a little sketch from the morning, at the Speicher, where we met and got the assignment for the workshop.

On that day in the evening we opened the exhibiton at the Speicher, that will still be there for one month (until end of August). To the sunmakers, who organized the festival, we gave – as a big heartfelt thank you – a sheet of 50 icecream-coupons, individually designed by the participants:

20.7. Welcome Party on the Gorch Fock I

In the evening after having an early lunch at the Bio Insel, we gathered at the hostel. There we were taken to the Gorch Fock I, guided by a Polka-Band! All the way trough the harbor was filled with saxophone, tuba, drums and accordion.

At the Gorch Fock I the mayor of Stralsund held a short speech, welcoming us to Stralsund as an important cultural happening. Then again some music, drawing people and finally coming in touch with some people.

After the welcoming event had finished, we went to the “Anchor”, a bar in the harbor on the very side of Gorch Fock. Cartooning and first Jam Comics. Drinking beer. Fun!

20.7. First Workshop: Speed-Date Sketching

After transporting our luggage to the hostel, we arrived at the “Speicher” (magazine) in time. The Speicher is the central point, where we met every day at 10 am to start with the workshops. But since this was the day of arrival we met at 3 pm.
After receiving our VIP-wristbands, sketchbook and a survival kit, and choosing a room key (trading room keys followed of cause) we started directly with the first workshop. To learn each others names and whereabouts we drew each other in short periods of time (around 3 minutes) and talked synchronically. After this workshop everyone had a few pages full of faces and names. A good way to look up names later, that you might not have remembered so well in the sketching-staccato.

20.7. Trip to Stralsund

On Friday my friend Katrin Friedel an I went to Stralsund by train. The trip starting in Cologne took us 7 hours. Time to get into the mood for sketching and talking about the great days to come.
